Mistake or Genius Invention?

So everyone has had a day in the kitchen when it seems like nothing is going right. The chicken is burning and the cake is flat and for some reason you can't get the smoke out of the kitchen! Well here's a look at some foods that were created from chef's carelessness and lack of attention :)

Potato Chips
Your not human unless you have indulged in millions and millions of tiny little fried creations called.... Chips!! So salty and crunchy and flavorful my mouth is watering already!! Well they all started in 1853, in Saratoga Springs, New York. The Carey Moon Lake House was a popular vacation spot for many of the wealthier citizens of New York.  One sunny day a customer had order some fried potatoes, similar to what our home fries look like today. The customer was constantly sending them back and ordering them to be more crispy. After about the fourth time, the chef had grown angry with the customer and had dropped all the potatoes into the oil and had cooked them until they were insanely crispy. He had added a little salt to them and had sent them out to the customer hoping that the customer would be displeased once again and to everyone amazement the customer had loved them and shared them with everyone at his table. Thus began Americas extreme love of potato chips:)
Coffee
The truth of this one is a bit murky, but the Legend of Kaldi maintains that an Abyssian or Ethopian goat herder noticed that his flock was acting especially frisky after chowing down on some bright red berries. After sampling some for himself and verifying the mood shift, he brought the berries to a local imam who studied them, eventually roasting and boiling a batch in water, thus brewing up the original cup o' Joe.
Corn Flakes
Strict Seventh Day Adventists John Harvey and Will Keith Kellogg weren't about to waste the stale, boiled wheat Will had left sitting out at their Battle Creek Sanitarium. They attempted to make long sheets of dough, but the process resulted in flakes, which they then toasted. Patients loved the new dish, and after experimenting with various grains, including corn, the brothers sought a patent for this Granose. The Kellogg's company was formed in 1906, but John refused to take part, as he felt the addition of sugar to the corn flakes decreased their health benefit.

Popsicles
One chilly night in 1905, eleven-year-old Frank Epperson left his soda making equipment outside on his San Francisco porch. The next day, he found that stick with which he'd been stirring flavored powder into water had frozen upright in the mixture. In 1924, he applied for a patent for this "Epsicle," which he then re dubbed "Popsicle," supposedly at the urging of his children.

Pretty cupcakes

So, we've all been in the dilemma of trying to make out food look more presentable. Well there alot of really easy tips to make your dishes look like you took alot more time on them than you actually did. Let's face it, we're not famous chefs but hey no one has to know that. So my little sister wanted some cupcakes for her birthday and me and my mom were trying to look up all these crazy things to do with cupcakes and found alot of really cool and easy tips:)

Owl cupcakes

All ya need is a few oreos and some M&Ms and chocolate frosting. Open up the oreos and get the ones with all the icing on them and lay both sides down with the icing facing up. After that you need to take an M&M and lay it sideways between the two oreos. Now finally, put a black candy M&M on the white Art of the icing for the eyeballs. Not alot of effort and they look so cute afterwards. Perfect for any birthdays close to the Halloween season.

Cookie Monster cupcakes

  1. Spoon a dollop of blue icing on the cupcake and smooth evenly with a knife or offset spatula.
  2. Dip cupcake in blue coconut, making sure it is evenly covered.
  3. To make the mouth, cut a line across the bottom third of the cupcake and use the knife to spread the edges a bit. Insert half a cookie into the mouth and smooth the icing around it, so that the cookie doesn’t fall out.
  4. Melt the chocolate and spoon it into a plastic bag. Cut a small tip off one of the corners and pipe little pupils onto the white chocolate buttons. Make sure the dark chocolate spots are set before touching. Smear a dollop of icing on the back of the button and position on the cupcake.
So cute!!!!
